Kit builder
Build a drum kit that fits your track
Name a style, a tempo and a key. Sound Server searches every source once per slot and picks a kick, snare, clap, hats and an 808 that suit it, each with alternatives and a licence verdict. Audition them here, swap what you don't like, and play the result in Strudel.
Pick a style, tempo and key, then build. You get one sound per slot with alternatives, a licence summary and a Strudel snippet that plays the kit in your browser.
How it picks the sounds
Each slot is one search of every source, shaped by your style words, tempo and key. Pitched slots such as the 808 rank higher when their key or root note matches yours, drum slots favour short one-shots, and sounds cleared for commercial use rank above the rest. Results are commercial-safe unless you turn that off, and every pick shows its licence verdict, the alternatives considered and the reasons it won.
| Slot | Job in the beat | General MIDI note |
|---|---|---|
| Kick | The pulse and the low punch | 36 |
| Snare | The backbeat on 2 and 4 | 38 |
| Clap | Layered with or replacing the snare | 39 |
| Closed hat | Eighths or sixteenths | 42 |
| Open hat | Offbeats, choked by the closed hat | 46 |
| 808 | Tuned bass for trap, drill and hip hop | played as notes |
The result plays straight away in Strudel through the snippet it writes, and maps to any sampler through its General MIDI / SFZ drum map. Step-by-step: how to build a drum kit from free samples. Browse the slots yourself in the drum collections and 808s.
From code or an agent
The same kit over the REST API:
curl -X POST https://sound.shep.bot/v1/kits \
-H "content-type: application/json" \
-d '{"style":"dark trap","bpm":140,"key":"F minor","slots":["kick","snare","clap","hat.closed","hat.open","808"]}'Or connect https://sound.shep.bot/mcp to your coding agent and ask: “build me a dark trap kit at 140 BPM in F minor, commercial-safe”. Run locally, the build_kit tool also downloads the picks with a Strudel map, an SFZ file and the credits. Agent setup
